It's All About Relationship #17

No comments from Friday regarding the application. So unless you were given light through some other application, your plant should be in a dark bag which would keep you from water, misting, food etc..

Here are my closing thoughts on Matthew 6:26.

That’s For The Birds....Or Is It?

Fact: As each bird flaps its wings, it creates an uplift for the bird following. By flying in a formation, the whole flock adds 71% greater flying range than if the bird flew alone.
Application: People who share a common direction and sense of comununity can get where they are going quicker and easier because they are traveling on the thrust of one another.
Acts 2:1. 42,46,47 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of: bread, and in prayers. And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart, Praising God, and having favour with all people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.

Fact: Whenever a goose falls out of formation, it suddenly feels the drag and resistance of trying to fly alone, and quickly gets back into formation to take advantage of the lifting power of the bird immediately in front.
Application: If we have as much sense as a goose, we will stay in formation with those who are headed where we want to go. This means we must be willing to accept their help as well as give ours to others.
Galatians 6:2,10 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ. As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

Fact: When the lead goose gets tired, it rotates back into the formation and another goose flies at the point position.
Application: It pays to take turns doing hard tasks and sharing leadership with people like the geese. We are interdependent on each other.
II Corinthians 8:13, 14 For this is not for the ease of others and for your affliction, but by way of equality, that at this present time your abundance being a supply for their need, so that at their abundance also may become a supply for your need, that their maybe equality.

Fact: The geese in formation honk from behind to encourage those up front to keep up their speed.
Application: We need to make sure our honking from behind is encouraging and not something else.
Hebrews 10:24, 25 And let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up stimulate and incite to love and helpful deeds and noble activities; Not forsaking or neglecting to assemble together as believers, as is the habit of some people, but admonishing, warning, urging, and encouraging one another, and all the more faithfully as you see the day approaching.

Fact: When a goose gets sick, wounded, or shot, two geese drop out of formation and follow it down to help protect it. They stay with it until it is able to fly again or dies. Then they launch out on their own with another formation, or catch up with the flock.
Application: If we have the sense of a goose, we too will stand by each other in difficult times, as well as when we are strong.
I Corinthians 13:4-8 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does notboast, it is not proud, it is not rude, it is not self- seeking, it is not easily angered, it records no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects. always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. LOVE NEVER FAILS!

Now it appears to me that these birds trust! I think I'll join a flock.

  1. WOW! This is profound! My, what you can learn from the birds...

I think the part that most stood out to me (primarily because I am most affected by it right now) is the part about "honking" from behind and encouraging the one's ahead. In my life, God has been knitting my heart closely with a few others that I was not expecting. Because of this new (and in some cases, renewed) friendship, I have been so encouraged and have likewise been able to encourage them. I honestly do not know what potentially dangerous spiritual decisions I would have made recently had it not been for my fellow "family" and "team" "holding up my arms" when I was weak and reminding me of our common purpose.

Specifically to my Onething family - THANK YOU! You don't know how much you've encouraged me recently and how excited I am to go deeper in relationship with you!

Acts 2 is one of my favorite chapters of the Bible and I've always wondered how that perfect unity will ever come to be when the Body is always arguing about trivial things within the Church and seeming to "one-up" one another with the right theology. Personally, I think my challenge with this has been being willing to accept someone's "advice/help" - particularly in those dark/egoic times when I perceive my walk with God to bear sufficient revelation for itself and I don't "need" anyone telling me what to do when God is leading me.

I realize how silly this is, and by the grace of God and leading of His Spirit, I can honestly say I'm working on it. :)

P.S. Ed! Since I wrote my own blog including the "vigil", can I have sunlight? I didn't comment on yours because I had already included my "answer/application" in mine.

  2. After reading and rereading this blog I see a common theme among the birds of the air. They all have a job to do, and we do to as being in the body of Christ. The gifts we have are to encourage and help. We also have jobs to do in the kingdome and it takes each other to do what needs to be done. Your Kingdome come, your will be done on earth, AS IT IS in HEAVEN. I believe we have a mandate to carry out what the Lord has told us to do!!! And it takes everyone participating.

  3. I have started to notice this trend recently of how appreciative I am of the people around me who are invigorating my passions. I was talking to Megan the other day about how I enjoy getting involved with passionate people. It stirs me up because of their excitement for their passion and leads me to encourage them or help them or support them in whatever they do. Its even greater when our passions collide or converge to form that V. Because even though your position is different like hayley said we all have a job to do. it takes the whole V to be effective. Dependency is necessary to see the big picture because otherwise its only as big as your piece of the puzzle.
